Germany is among the leading, time-honoured and central countries of the European F&B industry. It is of similar status within the global segment of the sector. This is due to the state's comprehensive and high-value food and beverage industry. It comprises around 6 000 small and medium-sized enterprises and extensive, time-honoured corporations. They produce more than 170 000 distinct food wares. This results in the F&B sector serving as the fourth most extensive industry within the state. It also results in the country serving as the European continent’s most comprehensive food producer. This applies particularly within subsegments such as meat, dairy, baked goods and confectionery. This results in the production of high annual turnovers. For example, in recent years, the German food and beverage industry has produced a revenue of up to 220 000 000 000 EUR. It also results in Germany serving as one of the most extensive global exporters in the sector. For instance, in recent years, it has exported wares totalling 76 600 000 000 EUR. Apart from being an extensive exporter and producer, Germany is also a leading F&B innovation hub. This is because its sector places a chief focus on researching novel solutions to the latest challenges and demands. Often, it displays its most recent innovations during biannual and annual trade expos. Such events attract hundreds of thousands of attendees.
