Germany is one of the central, leading and time-honoured countries in the European furniture industry. It also occupies a similar position within the global segment of the sector. This is due to the country's high-quality and comprehensive furnishing segment. It comprises more than 1,000 production companies. They employ around 102 000 specialists. They are active in various sub-sectors that represent the entire value chain. Small and medium-sized companies as well as extensive, time-established groups represent such sub-sectors. This leads to high annual turnovers. In recent years, for example, an annual turnover of around EUR 20 000 000 000 was achieved. Around three-quarters of the segment’s production is generated in various German states. These include North Rhine-Westphalia, Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Lower Saxony, Hesse and Saxony. In addition, around a third of the goods produced are exported. This includes exportations to diverse countries in various continents such as Asia. Often, a significant amount of the exported and produced wares are novel solutions. These are created through extensive research and development. Often, the sector displays its latest innovations during trade expos. Such events take place every six months or one to two years. They attract hundreds of thousands of attendees from various countries and continents.
