Cologne is among the leading, central and time-honoured cities of the German furniture industry. This is due to the comprehensive and high-value furnishing industry present in the urban centre. It is often considered to be part of the North-Rhine Westphalia industrial cluster. This is one of the leading federal states, regions and industry-related segments of the state. This is because the segment produces high turnovers through its more than 150 companies. They vary from small and medium-sized enterprises to extensive, time-honoured corporations. They employ more than 7 000 specialists. They, in turn, produce up to and over 9 260 000 000 EUR of annual turnover. This aids the German furniture industry, respectively. The cluster is in addition to the central training locations of the sector. This is due to it placing a chief focus on research and education. For example, in recent years, the state government has funded the construction of a furniture industrial training factory in one city of the region. The project will result in an expenditure of approximately 18 500 000 EUR and the annual training of around 125 specialists. It will also aid in the training of R&D experts that will produce novel solutions. Such will be presented during yearly and biannual trade expos. Such events attract hundreds of thousands of attendees.
