Germany is among the leading countries in the European and global chemical industries. This is due to the state featuring one of the most extensive and high-value chemical sectors. It comprises around 2 230 enterprises, partially organised into 40 chemical parks. They employ around 473 200 specialists. This results in the generation of multi-billion euro turnovers. They, in turn, contribute significantly to the country’s economy. For instance, in recent years, the German chemical industry has generated a revenue of 227 100 000 000 EUR. This contributes around 11.92% of the country's GDP or gross domestic product. It also results in the chemical industry being Germany's third most extensive industry. The sector is also among the central contributors to the state’s R&D expenditures. This is due to around 80% of German chemical enterprises integrating R&D activities. This enables them to remain up-to-date on the latest challenges. As a result, the German chemical industry often expends multiple billions of euros. For instance, in recent years, it has reached R&D expenditures of 13 200 000 000 EUR. Generally, the sector presents its latest novel solutions during annual and biannual trade expositions hosted in diverse cities.
