Introduction to the Italian agricultural industry

Italy is one of the most important contributors to the European agricultural sector. It is among the leading European exporters of agrarian products. It is due to several significant factors. Among them are Italy's diverse characteristics. These include the different terrains, climates, soils and regional practices. It enables the country to produce a variety of products. It includes cereals, dried pulses, vegetables, industrial crops and floriculture. These are practised in approximately 1.1 to 1.5 million farms. They also occur on 12 to 16 million hectares of agricultural land.

Is the sector highly valued?

Around 900,000 professionals tend the sector's farms and hectares. It results in the segment accounting for 2% of the GDP. Similarly, as part of the more extensive agri-food industry, it accounts for 15% of it. As a result, the agricultural sector generates annual turnovers of €42.4 billion. As part of the agri-food sector, it produces approximately €180 billion. It includes over €70 billion being developed through exports. It corresponds to 11% of the country's total exports.

Is the sector innovative?

The sector is one of the economic segments that places a high value on innovation. It keeps it up to date with the latest challenges and trends. They often present such novel solutions at the annual trade exhibitions. They attract hundreds of thousands of participants.
