Edinburgh is among the central, leading and time-honoured cities of the UK’s food and beverage industry. This is because the urban centre is part of the Scottish F&B cluster. This is one of the country’s central and pre-eminent industry-related regions because of its comprehensibility and high value. For example, it comprises more than 1 300 enterprises that employ up to 122 000 specialists throughout the entire value chain. It also produces an annual turnover of around and over 14 900 000 000 GBP. It similarly generates a GVA (gross value added) of 5 600 000 000 GBP. The food and beverage manufacturing segment produces a significant amount of this value. It is one of the most extensive ones within the cluster. It constitutes up to 14.6% of the UK’s overall industry-related GVA and 10.8% of its annual revenue. It also constitutes 31.3% of the state’s total F&B exportations. This is due to the segment producing up to 10 700 000 GBP of annual turnover and up to 3 900 000 000 GBP of GVA through its more than 1 200 manufacturing companies that employ 44 000 specialists. These vary from small and medium-sized enterprises to extensive, time-honoured corporations. It results, in turn, in the food and beverage manufacturing segment of the Scottish F&B cluster being one of Scotland’s most comprehensive manufacturing sectors. Additionally, the cluster and its segments are among the central innovation hubs of the UK’s F&B industry. This is due to their chief focus on research and development. Often, the cluster displays its latest innovations during annual trade expos. Such events, hosted in diverse event sites, including in Edinburgh, attract hundreds of thousands of attendees.
