Parma is one of the Italian wine industry's leading, central, and time-honoured cities. This is due to the urban centre being one of the noteworthy sites of the Emilia Romagna wine region. It is one of the country’s most extensive and high-valued segments. This is due to its notable number of vineyard hectares and high annual values. For example, it has recently extended to include between 53 000 and 61 000 hectares of wine-grape-growing vines. More than 260 wineries throughout the region tend to occupy such hectares. This results in the production of around 2 300 000 hectolitres of wine annually. It includes around 15% being produced under 19 DOCs related to the cluster. It also results in the production of notably high annual turnover rates. For example, two of the leading wineries in the region have produced a total revenue of 1 128 800 000 EUR in recent years. The region features such a notable wine cluster due to diverse reasons. Among them is that the region features a suitable climate and sun exposure level for wine-growing vines. Furthermore, the region features a notable number of wine-drinking individuals. In recent years, it has equated to 9% of the country’s 2 900 000 wine-enjoying people. In addition, the Emilia-Romagna region is among the Italian wine industry’s leading and central innovation hubs. This is due to its high focus on researching and developing innovations to meet the latest industrial requirements and market trends. Generally, the sector presents its most recently developed novel solutions during trade expos. These include triennial events in Parma that attract tens of thousands of attendees.
