Introduction to the Maastrichtenaar arts and antiques sector
Maastricht and the surrounding Limburg region are among the leading, central, and time-honoured sections of the Dutch CCS (creative/artistic and cultural sector). This also applies to the art and antiques segment. There are several causes for its position, including its extensiveness and high values. For example, it has recently extended to include more than 3 000 enterprises. They include over 1 000 amateur art organisations and 350 heritage organisations. This results in the segment featuring diverse specialists. Among them are around 2 500 art professionals and 19 000 heritage volunteers. As a result, the sector has notably high annual turnover rates. For example, it has recently generated an annual revenue of more than 4 710 616 000 EUR. Such values in turn aid the Dutch CCS. The Limburg region, including Maastricht, also assists the segment in several other ways. These include furthering its development through a high focus on research and by presenting the latest artistic creations. This results in the Dutch CCS furthering its growth.
